Excuses, excuses...

So i thought i might let everybody know why i haven't been posting lately. see, i've been a bit preoccupied with planning a wedding. :) my super awesome boy kyle proposed back in september and it's been a non-stop wedding planning party every since. and amazingly we are getting close to being done too! just a few last things to book, but after that it's all about the fun stuff!

we had our rings custom made by a jeweler in west texas. they are white gold and use diamonds from both sides of our family. they are very special and unique!

when is the big day you ask? March 17! and no, we will not be serving green beer at the reception. ;)

Slow goin'

well, i've made some progress on my Santa Fe backpack, but it's still a bit slow goin'. i'm about 7/8 of the way through the back side and once it's done will only lack the pocket and assemling it all. i'm getting very excited about it! i picked up some cute violet cotton to work on another baby sweater for a friend from h.s. who's due in August.

The thing that's been taking up most of my time lately is a cute little girl named Myrtle. :) she my new adopted kitty. what a cutie! she likes to help me knit. ;)

i promise to post some pics of my progress soon. :)

Afternoon Delight!

One other quick side note for the day...
i got some yarn in the mail yesterday that i've been anxiously awaiting. the colorway is "Afternoon Delight". i purchased it through a great website called etsy.com! it's full of all wonderful things handmade including a ton of hand-dyed, hand-spun yarn of all sorts. this particular skein is 100% wool from a seller named kristie haynes. lovely stuff! :-D

knitty misc

i started my first pair of fingerless wrist warmers last night while watching the mavs game (which they lost btw). i think they are going to be really fun. i'm using a combonation of yarns:
This soft, bouncy, neutral Icelandic wool is the main color, then "Maude" a lovely textured wool will be used for a large stripe somewhere (i love the shots of color mixed into the olive green), and finally a great merino wool called "tropical seas" will fill in with some small stripes for an added zing of color. The pattern i'm using can be found here.

Other than this new project the only thing i have going is the great drawstring backpack i started for my mom for mother's day, lol. i get around to finishing it one of these days. ;) it is going to be quite lovely. Pictures to follow as soon as i finish!

i found a great pic of kyle from when we went to a concert at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens a couple weeks ago. He decided to get a Superman slurpee on the way--needless to say this is why his tongue turned red. the concert was amazing; it was all about russian composers. they had a guest soloist (a thirteen year old boy) come play a long concherito with them and ended the night with one of my favorite songs of all time, the 1812 Overture. there were a few fireworks at the end timed wonderfully with the song, and it made for one of the most wonderful nights out i've had in quite a while. we're going again on friday to see "Rhapsody in Blue, a night with Gershwin". it's gunna rock!

Day 1

i finished a really fun project this past weekend. his name is winston. he's adorable. i decided to leave him up at work with me to keep me company. he's doing a great job so far. he's knit out of Lion brand's wool ease in a dark charcoal and wear a dashing terquoise mohair scarf knit in a simple garter stitch. he's stuffed with lintels and scrap yarn. much fun!
Winston's pattern can be found here.
